I name all the bears I make, do you? I know that not everyone does. I like to name my bears because they seem a bit more ‘real’ to me when I name them.
I have a couple ways of finding names for my bears.
Sometimes I’m in a food mood – usually desserts! In fact, I’ve just finished 2 little bears for my Teddies by Laura Lynn collectors and they are named Sorbet and Maple Nut 😉 I’ll often make the bear first, and if I’m in that “food mood”, I will look on Pinterest or just Google for “Chocolate desserts” “Ice cream flavors”, “Fudge names” etc.
Another website that I use quite often to help with finding names for my bears is Petfinder! I love using pet names for my bears. The only problem is that I sometimes fall in love with the pets on the site. In fact, I found Sequoia (my Chihuahua) on Petfinder!
If I am looking for “cutesy” names I’ll look for small dogs 🙂
So… do YOU name your bears? If you do, how do you find names for them?
August 31, 2015 at 9:25 pm #2212I name all mine too. Most of the time I get names from books. Eg. My kids story books. Sometimes the names just come to me by just looking at the finished bear.🐻
September 1, 2015 at 8:01 am #2216i too wait until the bear is finished,it usually comes to me then, once i have completed the face it then sees real,my other half thinks im mad,as i talk to them as if their real,he asked me to name the last few bears after generals and the battles-ie; waterloo,General lee etc as he works with a re- enactors and they act out American civil war battles, its quite fun, they are just like kids in the play yard playing cowboys and indians, well they have fun doing it and a social thing, there are the ones who are very serious staying tents etc but most like to dress up and the younger ones love to watch(usually holding there ears!) xxx
September 1, 2015 at 8:31 pm #2260I love hearing how you all come up with names! Yes, I have to wait until the bear is finished too. I once tried to name a bear in advance. I had this lovely cream colored mohair with purple tips. I was going to call her Lilacia. But when the bear was finished it was definitely a boy! LOL!
Mandy that is so cool about your other half’s hobby! Talk about bringing history to life!
